On Trying to Obtain a Visa...

Well, you would not believe the day I've had!

My sister said she would go to Washington, DC, with me (I didn't want to walk around DC by myself - plus I also didn't want to drive to the Metro.) So, when she got here, we stopped by the bank to get the money to buy the Money Order from the United States Post Office (USPO). That is what the Brazilian Consulate required.

While at the PO I also got a big over-night envelope and a form to go with it. I left before filling out the form - forgot about it, I was in a rush (bad!!!) When I got to the car (my sister was driving), I filled out the Money Order and then got out the form to fill it out when I realized that the PO personal had to fill out part of it, so I had left without giving it to them! =(

We then found a PO near the Metro, but the line was so long I didn't think we would be able to make it down to the Brazilian Consulate in time, so we stopped by Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shoppe and sat down and ate a doughnut! =D And then drove back home, where I went back to the same PO, where they then told me the sending PO would be the ones to fill out the form, so I could have gone on down to the Consulate anyway! =S I just wished she had made that clear to me in the beginning!

Oh well, we are planning on going back on Wednesday, provided the roads are alright (It's supposed to snow tonight and pretty much all day tomorrow! Eek!)

So, after we got back and my sister headed home, I decided I needed to accomplish something that day, so I got my hair cut.  It turned out to be one of the absolutely best hair cuts I've ever gotten! =D

How was everyone else's day? =D

TV Shows I Watch

1/21/2016

I actually watch a LOT of TV. I went for years without watching one single show and then I got Netflix and BOOM! It's been TV galore since then! Wow, has it ever!  Some of my favorites TV shows are:
  • The Walking Dead
  • Criminal Minds
  • The Following
  • Lost
  • Continuum
  • The 100
  • 4400
  • Psych
  • White Collar
  • Lie to Me
  • Sherlock
  • Burn Notice
  • Breakout Kings
  • Heroes
  • Terra Nova
  • Pretty Little Liars
  • Once Upon a Time
  • Ascension
  • Dexter
  • Revenge
  • 24
  • Touch
  • Prison Break
  • Friday Night Lights
  • Army Wives
  • One Tree Hill
  • Survivors
  • Switched at Birth
  • Dollhouse
  • Person of Interest
  • Desperate Housewives
(These are not in any order.)

And, just today I started watching Zoo, which I have to say, looks to be very good!

What I also find interesting is seeing an actor from one TV show having a part on another.  I just love that!  One of the first shows I watched was Lost because so many people were talking about it.  I absolutely hated Ben on the show.  Years later I started watching Person of Interest and I didn't even realize the same actor who was playing Finch had played Ben - and I absolutely LOVED Finch!  So, I guess I'm saying Michael Emerson is a really good actor!

Something else I've noticed - practically every time an actor from one show is on another they are a different character.  But I then saw Robert Knepper who played T-bag in Prison Break, also appeared in Breakout Kings as the same character!  I don't think I've ever seen that done before! If you have, please tell me about it and which shows they were on and the character, OK?

So, if you have a show you think I might enjoy, please post it below - thanks!

My newest game is Fish Live!  It is so calming, watching the fish and you never have to get your hands wet, let alone dirty! cleaning the fish tank!  Take a look at some of the images I took of it off my tablet at my Fish Live Gallery.

I just went there to post something to a couple of friends and there is no way to post!  Is it just me, or is it that way for everyone?  I'm really hoping someone from there will see this!

As you can see, the place we used to post is gone.  Please tell me there is something I can do to fix this!

The Changing Web

4/24/2015

Just lately, I have run into several sites that have either changed almost beyond recognition, or have ceased to exist completely.  I don't know about you, but I do not like change. Well, I don't mind changing a design of a website for the better, but when it changes for the worst, like the one I'm thinking of, well, that's just not something I want to deal with.

And then there's the wowmeter - the one I posted about before this post.  It's just plain gone.  No explanation, just a notice about closing on April 9th (I believe it was April 9th.)  It was a simple site and I liked it.

I think I'll go watch a movie.

The WOW Factor!

I just found a site called WOWMeter.com.  I thought it sounded a little funny and it's one of those little sites where you can get a banner for people to click on and it just counts your clicks.  Sounds simplistic, right? Well, it is.  I'm putting my link here on my blog in hopes that you might click it and give me one more "Wow". (which I think sounds really funny!)

Oh, and here's my banner, in case you'd rather click it:

*** Well, I used to have my banner here. The whole site (wowmeter.com) has gone down. *sob* ***

Childhood Memories

8/3/2014

I grew up in a very small town that did not have any restaurants. We did, however, have a general store. My mother used to send my sisters and I up to the store to buy a loaf of bread or carton of milk. My father used to work at the gas station which was just a stone's throw away. My uncle owned the farm behind our house and was a dairy farmer. I remember many days sitting in the backyard watching the cows graze out in the field behind out house. They would munch their way from the barnyard all the way up to the fence bordering our backyard and then slowly turn around and make their way back. Yep, that was usually the highlight of every summer's evening. Of course, we also caught lightening bugs and put them in quart jars. Now, that was fun!

Of course, there were also attractions in the front yard as well. The porch, for example, was the hotspot for many car counting escapades. I had three sisters and we would all sit on the porch, pick a color that would be "ours", and wait for cars to drive by. If the car was "our" color, we'd chalk up one point. You can see how exciting this activity could be in a small town with hardly any traffic, I'm sure.

As I said, there were no restaurants, but that didn't mean we didn't eat well! Oh, no! On the contrary, we ate very well. Watermelon and corn on the cob were my two favorite summertime foods. My father eventually build a nice grill - made it out of brick so it would last!  Then we would have family cook-outs - they were the best! My mom could bake a pie like no other.  And did I mention she was the best cook around? Well, she was. Yummy foods were always being baked, cooked, canned, or frozen.

Childhood memories are a thing to cherish. Everybody should be so lucky as I to have such a blissful childhood, one free of the worries and cares of the world we live in today. Free also of stress and heartache in the home. I thank God for my childhood days.

PSP Level 1 Lessons 7 - 12

OK, I got some more Paint Shop Pro lessons to show everyone!  I already showed you lessons 1 - 6 so here comes Lesson 7:

Which looks like this when you put four of them together:
Tiling
This is a simple swirl design, but then we had to make it so it "tiled".  You can use images like this for a background on a website and it will tile "seamlessly" so you can't tell where one image stops and another begins.  See this web site for an example of seamless tiling:  The Flower Game  (And I made the background for them!)

Now for Lesson 8:
Picture
OK, this one looks nicer than the swirls and some of the others I've done so far.  The flowers were already provided, so I can't take credit for them.  "Checking in!" is something we have to do every month at the school, so that's why the wording.  Now, what we had to do here is use the brush tool, which is the three lines and the corners.  And, actually, it made the orange marble looking background too, if I'm not mistaken!

Picture
Lesson 9:

This is just using one of the effects in PSP - the mosaic effect.  You basically just take the same picture (the ladybugs) and do the efftect on them and then place a duplicate of it on top.  I really like the effect!

Picture
Lesson 10:

Lesson 10 uses the Clone tool.  It's sort of hard for me to describe, but you can see what you can do with it here.  And below is another picture - there was only one windmill in the picture at first, then I copied (by using the clone tool) that one to make another.  Looks sort of neat.

Lesson 11:

This one didn't turn out the way I would have liked it to, but I guess you can sort of see what it's supposed to be - a combination of two images.  You use the "Image Arithmetic"
dialog box - not sure what to call it.  I doubt I'll be using it much.

Picture
And, last, Lesson 12:

This was mainly to teach us how to do that twirly thing with the squares. I think it's pretty cool and I could see where I might use it sometime in the future.  (I don't care for the colors of this one so I had to do something so that is why you see the pretty rainbow background!)

So, that is all of the Beginner Lessons for Level 1.  Next time I post my lessons it will be from Level 2! Bet you just can't wait, huh? =D

Very Cool Fish!

4/3/2014

Found these fish swimming around on a friend's blog and liked them so much, I thought I'd get some for myself.  OK, it didn't turn out like I thought.  I wanted (and said to have) 10 fish.  I also gave them each a different color - sort of like a rainbow swimming around, but all I got was the normal orange which is the example.  Not sure how to get it right.  I didn't even get the background color I set it for.  Hmmm.

Lessons - Beginners!

OK, so I have started back taking lessons for Paint Shop Pro - I think might have mentioned that already.  Now I've decided to show you a few of the things I've learn (and in some cases, relearned!)

First, making a banner.  Very simple, but a nice banner.  Here's mine:
Picture
That was Lesson 2 of Level 1.  Lesson 1 was an overview of Paint Shop Pro and also things like how to take screenshots.

Next, we had to resize an image.  I'm not going to show that here, so on to Lesson 4 - a Frame:
Picture
Lesson 5 is called "Easy Reflection" and looks rather cool - and more difficult than it is, if you ask me:
Picture
I don't know if you could tell, but I messed up on this one.  I used a font that had a capital "Y" that went below the "line" and so when I went to make the reflection, it didn't quite look right.  Oh well, you live and learn, right?

I decided to put six lessons up at a time, since there are 12 lessons per level, at least for the Beginner's section.  Next, and last for this post, is Lesson 6 where we had to make a watermark.  This was so we could use it on all of our lessons.  That way another student could come along and say the image was their work and then they could go through the entire school that way. That wouldn't be right!

Here are my watermarks and you will see them on all of my lessons.  One for dark images:
Picture
And one for white, or light, images:
Picture
I would have linked to each Lesson, but you have to go to the School for PSP and More and be accepted.  These are their Lessons and not mine to share, but I'm sure they would love to have anyone come and take them!  Maybe I'll see you there!

    truelinor (Tru)

Just a person interested in playing games. Usually slower type, non-violent games.  I like collectable games.  Even had an idea for a game myself, but I wouldn't know how to code it. So, I play other people's games and enjoy them. This site shows you most of the games I've played - there have been a lot more in the past, but now I just play Minecraft and Fish Paradise on my phone. (Minecraft on my computer.)

I guess some of you might be thinking Minecraft isn't a collectable game, but I would have to disagree.  Sure, trying to slay the dragon is probably everyone's main objective, but there is also collecting items and trying to make every farm possible. So, I still think of it as a collectable game. =)  Perhaps one day I will try to defeat the dragon, but it probably won't be any time soon! (May 29, 2021)
