Childhood Memories

I grew up in a very small town that did not have any restaurants. We did, however, have a general store. My mother used to send my sisters and I up to the store to buy a loaf of bread or carton of milk. My father used to work at the gas station which was just a stone's throw away. My uncle owned the farm behind our house and was a dairy farmer. I remember many days sitting in the backyard watching the cows graze out in the field behind out house. They would munch their way from the barnyard all the way up to the fence bordering our backyard and then slowly turn around and make their way back. Yep, that was usually the highlight of every summer's evening. Of course, we also caught lightening bugs and put them in quart jars. Now, that was fun!

Of course, there were also attractions in the front yard as well. The porch, for example, was the hotspot for many car counting escapades. I had three sisters and we would all sit on the porch, pick a color that would be "ours", and wait for cars to drive by. If the car was "our" color, we'd chalk up one point. You can see how exciting this activity could be in a small town with hardly any traffic, I'm sure.

As I said, there were no restaurants, but that didn't mean we didn't eat well! Oh, no! On the contrary, we ate very well. Watermelon and corn on the cob were my two favorite summertime foods. My father eventually build a nice grill - made it out of brick so it would last!  Then we would have family cook-outs - they were the best! My mom could bake a pie like no other.  And did I mention she was the best cook around? Well, she was. Yummy foods were always being baked, cooked, canned, or frozen.

Childhood memories are a thing to cherish. Everybody should be so lucky as I to have such a blissful childhood, one free of the worries and cares of the world we live in today. Free also of stress and heartache in the home. I thank God for my childhood days.

Perhaps we grew up around the same time frame. I did not live in town when I grew up, but there was an old, run-down store on the highway which was within walking distance from my house.

This old store had a candy counter with a delightful display of penny candies. It was a terrible dilemma, trying to pick out which 9 candies to buy. It had to be just 9 candies because if I bought 10 I’d have to pay a penny in tax. At least that’s what I was told.

It was such a satisfying feeling to walk those roads back home carrying such treasure in that tiny brown bag.

Perfect Peace, I appreciate your comments! For one, it lets me know that at least one person read my ramblings. Perhaps we did grow up in the same era, who knows?

Funny you should mention candy. I don't recall any candy at the store I went to, but perhaps there was. I would think I would have noticed it though, if there had been.

And, just to let you know, I went to Creature Breeder after you posted. I got the coins from the tree and fed all my creatures, but I feel so isolated there. All my comments are from ages ago. =(

Btw, who were you? I don't remember anyone by the name of Perfect Peace there. Did you ever enter any of my contests I held here? =D

I had a number of accounts, but I think you would have most likely recognized me as Other Side or Oomph. We never really talked though.

I never entered any contests, but I did see mention of a couple under the community tab. They scroll away pretty fast, and at the time I didn’t think I could win. I didn’t know about your website then. I found your website from BeHappyNow’s.

I know what you mean about feeling isolated there. That’s one reason why I make a new account and start over after I’ve been gone a while. I had never really gotten to know anyone there anyway. Now that we can chat in The Wild, it should make it easier to be friendly.

I’m glad you visited the game. Maybe you’ll decide to play again. The game could use some of your spunk and contests. Besides, I could win them now. :D

Just a person interested in playing games. Usually slower type, non-violent games.  I like collectable games.  Even had an idea for a game myself, but I wouldn't know how to code it. So, I play other people's games and enjoy them. This site shows you most of the games I've played - there have been a lot more in the past, but now I just play Minecraft and Fish Paradise on my phone. (Minecraft on my computer.)

I guess some of you might be thinking Minecraft isn't a collectable game, but I would have to disagree.  Sure, trying to slay the dragon is probably everyone's main objective, but there is also collecting items and trying to make every farm possible. So, I still think of it as a collectable game. =)  Perhaps one day I will try to defeat the dragon, but it probably won't be any time soon! (May 29, 2021)
