Filling the Rune Wheel

Every once in a while you will receive Rune Shards as prizes for different things.  When collected, they can be turned into a Rune for any Ancient Wonder (AW) you want.  Here is another way to collect them as explained by samidodamage on the Elvenar forum:

The same broken shards bar is shared by all AW's. Pick any AW you don't want to keep. I'll use Tome of Secrets (ToS) as an example of one I don't want and Golden Abyss (GA) as one I need the runes to build. Substitute any AW for these.
Picture
Go into the ToS and insert runes. As you do this, some will break and the broken shard will float over to the broken shards bar. When the broken shards bar is full, close the ToS, open the GA and forge a rune from the broken shards bar. Forged runes are guaranteed to fit and not break. Repeat as many times as you need/are able to.

Once the ToS rune wheel is full, the only way to get the rune wheel empty and ready to fill again is to build the ToS and then sell it. It will go back to needing the 9 runes again. Go back in the ToS, insert more runes, get more broken shards, close. Open GA, forge a rune. Back to ToS, repeat.
If you have more than one AW that has available runes and empty spots on the rune wheel, you can use them as well. Say you also have Endless Excavation (EE) that you're not going to build (and keep). Once the ToS wheel is full, you can go to the EE and insert runes, getting broken shards from those. Once broken shards bar is full, close EE, go to GA, forge a rune, back to EE, repeat.

You must allow the AW being built to completely finish before you sell it. Cancelling the build will return it to its original state with a full rune circle and no way to use it to make more broken shards. Also, you will lose the resources used to build it. Ex: The ToS requires marble, steel and planks for the original build. None of these resources will be returned when it is sold if it isn't allowed to complete the construction.

It can be a slow process when you're small (as you get larger, you'll accumulate more runes in your inventory, especially if you play the tourney consistently). But it's not as slow as waiting on the 'luck of the draw' as to which runes you get as a reward. It works really well when you're down to only needing 1-2 runes to complete the wheel on the one you want to build.
